"The glamour of the East had cast its spell upon him; the mystery of lands in which no white man had set foot since the beginning of things had fired his imagination; the itch of travel was upon him, goading him to restlessness"

My new fury friend

Thanks to Anita's Vintage Fashion Boutique at the Clothes show live, this beautiful real fur stole belongs to me!!!

and i couldn't be more excited to wear it and cosy up in this cold weather with this draped over my shoulders. I am yet to discover from which animals back this fine fur has come from, and yes i must admit, I'm not really fussed about the whole 'fur' debate, despite how strongly many people feel about it.

All i know is it looks great, feels great and was worth every penny for me this christmas!

Merry Christmas

Banksy in Southampton

My dissertation is arguing how the meaning of graffiti has changed to the present day. I explore the argument of whether graffiti is art or vandalism and how the rise of street artist Bansky has given the term 'graffiti' a whole new meaning and shaped how we see it in the 21st century. So when this appeared in Southampton last tuesday i couldn't believe my luck! what great timing to inspire me further with my essay and give relevant, up to date primary research material.
The mural was stenciled onto a father of one's front wall of his home in Bevois Valley in Southampton and drew attention from BBC news, press, the art elite and pedestrian passers by all flocking to see the art work. it was rumored Bansky was on his way to the isle of White and decided to stop here on his way through. Some doubted it was by the real Banksy, but when the stencil art appeared on his website there was no doubt it was a real piece of art by the anonymous graffiti artist.

The mural was said to have increased the gentlemen's house by more than £20,000 and the plan was to sell the painting to an art gallery or to preserve it like they do with perspex and a frame like the ones in Brighton. The image of a young boy with the words 'no future' above was stunning, and i felt so privileged and excited that we had a real Bansky in Southampton!

So you can imagine the uproar when less than 24 hours later, someone with a white wash and paintbrush had the nerve to paint over the Bansky mural along with writing the word 'styles' next to the text above.

Posters have been stuck to the wall next to the graffiti asking to 'find the Banksy mural ruiner' . So kids believe the graffiti Bansky created is ok, but not the graffiti of others? Surely both artists have broke the same laws, using the same materials in the same context... so what makes one right and the other not? CHildren of today are being bought up in the midst of graffiti art and the meaning to them is a whole lot different to that of an older generation.

WHO and WHY were the questions circulating the next day, and as you can imagine there was uproar and controversy over what had been done to artwork. But how is what Bansky created art work, and not what the youth has graffitied onto it artwork? they are both vandalising property illegally using the same materials- they are both graffiti and have just practiced the same ideas in the same context. Is it the motives behind the graffiti that makes it art? The argument of weather graffiti is a legitimate art form will continue to be questioned and never answered. This doesn't change the fact that Bansky is seen as a true artist of the 21st century creating something new and innovative with our landscapes.

Yesterday i went back to the mural to see if any further changes have been made. This is what i found...

Does graffiti have a future style? or is everyone just creating the same old thing? illegal vandalism using spray paint... I plan to continue documenting the process and change of the Banksy mural here in Southampton and use for the practice element of my disertation.

Will controversy and further graffiti continue to happen surrounding the wall? previous work's of graffiti artist Bansky have been attacked and changed, creating new pieces of graffiti.. or 'art'

what do you see it as?

A Tartan Tale

When emerging myself from amongst the wonderful christmas decorations in Milton Keynes Shopping center, i found myself in Debenhams admiring the beauty that is the MAC counter and their amazing new collection of designs for a holiday colour collection "A TARTAN TALE"

The collection is described as

"Telling a slightly twisted Tartan Tale to celebrate holiday, in all its posh, punk, ancestral, anarchic, noble and naughty glory. Royal and raunchy, colours and patterns collide, fantasies come true, punk fairies take flight with enchanted new looks. Be transformed!"

I think the editorial images and makeup packaging is fantastic! a true Scottish Highland feel just in time for autumn winter and to give not only your face, but your makeup bag a pick me up of colour and fun!

Here are some examples of the fantastic and inspiring face charts created by MAC
Of course i couldn't leave without purchasing something from this rich and exciting new collection so i treated myself to this: A gorgeous orange blush straight from the tartan tale highlands, named

"My Highland Honey"

Giving Trend Forecasting a bash!

My first 7 weeks in the final year of my degree have taught me the art of trend forecasting. Something very new to me and daunting considering WGSN was about as much as i new! Throughout the 7 weeks i have filtered my creative eye through mounds of inspiring information and stunning visual imagery gathered from my travels around South East Asia. Resulting in a trend package forecasting a Colour trend for Spring/Summer 2012. Having just submitted this unit of work i feel i should share my hard slog of 7 weeks with you and hopefully inspire your palette for next summer!

Hair like an animal

How badly do you want these hairstyles!!?? Hair Hats by Nagi Noda
GENIUS

Made from the models OWN hair, Japanese artist Nagi noda.

stemming from my love of all things taxidermy i was amazed when i saw these animal incorporated hairstyles on http://www.designboom.com from dogs, to giraffes and lions these creations are inspiring and innovative, WHY haven't we seen anything like this down the runway for Autumn Winter!? How perfect, the colours and textures are yummy. yes the question is would you ACTUALLY wear your hair like this? and the answer is likely to be no... but for a fashion/beauty/art image i think there brill. The one of the lion reminded me of the amazing theatre show The Lion King where they have spectacular headpieces as their costumes.

The beautiful Marrakesh

This is where il be spending the christmas hollidays! The BEAUTIFUL City if Marrakesh in Morocco. To celebrate my turning of 21 (eeeek!) il be jetting off for 5 days to the "Red City" right in the heart of North Africa.

Marrakech has the LARGEST traditional market in Morocco so as you can imagine im overly excited to snap up lots of Moroccon goodies and photograph the beautiful North African atmosphere in one of the busiest squares in the world bustling with acrobats, story-tellers, dancers and musicians, By moon light and lanterns i shall be sampling the rich foods from the food stalls open in the square turning it into a huge open-air restaurant. I can feel my senses tingling already!

I will be staying at Le Riad Monceau. A traditional Maroccon Riad Right in the heart of the old town, just a stones throw from the sights and smells of the city. Riad Monceau is a true gem of Hispano-Moorish architecture. This quote from their website gives me goose-pimples with excitement!

"You will be enchanted by the refreshing cool and dazzling luminosity of the Andalusian patio, paved with Carrare marble and boasting a fine swimming pool inlaid with traditional mosaic, by the spacious sun-drenched terraces with views of the Koutoubia and the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas, and by the intimate atmosphere of the restaurant, where you can savour the very finest in Moroccan cuisine."
